A hairdresser at home does the same work as a salon, only in your own living room. The difference is not in the treatment but in who travels.
I am Hanna Valiullina and I work out of Papendrecht. My base is on the Beltmolen, and from there I am in any part of town within a few minutes.
In practice that means no waiting area, no hunting for a parking space, and no appointment squeezed into a salon opening hours. You put out a chair and I bring the rest.
The misconception I hear most is that at home you can only get a cut. Colour, balayage, airtouch, keratin and even a full colour correction all happen at clients homes, with the same professional products a salon uses.
What you do not have at home is a backwash basin at the right height. We solve that at a tap with a bit of care, and it is the only practical compromise this way of working asks for.
Where in Papendrecht and around I work
Within Papendrecht I cover all nine districts. Molenvliet, Kraaihoek, Wilgendonk, Middenpolder, Oostpolder, Westpolder, Vriesenpolder, De Noordoever and De Kooy-Oosteind all sit a few minutes from the Beltmolen.
That solves a practical problem straight away. The centre has a blue parking zone and the car goes into Garage de Overtoom or De Waalburcht, while an appointment at home means you park nothing at all.

Papendrecht is exactly big enough for a hairdresser who travels and exactly small enough to reach quickly. The figures show why this works.
The town has just over thirty two thousand inhabitants across roughly fourteen thousand households. A third of those are single-person households, and almost a quarter of residents are sixty five or older.
That last number matters most for my work. For people who cannot easily leave the house, a hairdresser who comes to them is not a luxury but the only practical way to get a haircut.
Working at home is no longer unusual in this trade either. The Monitor Kerndata Kappers reports that the Netherlands had nearly thirty two thousand hairdressing businesses at the end of 2024, one in ten of which works mobile, at the client home.
The price deserves a sober look too. The average person in the Netherlands spent about fifty euro per salon visit in 2024, while a gentlemen cut here is twenty five euro and a women cut starts at twenty five, home visit included.
How an appointment at home goes
An appointment at home follows the same order as a salon, without the waiting in between. Here is how it runs.
- You say what you want and where you live, by WhatsApp, phone or the contact form.
- We discuss what your hair type allows, how long it takes and what it will cost, before anything is fixed.
- I arrive at the agreed time with all the materials and cover the floor and furniture where needed.
- Your hair is assessed dry first: how it falls, where the crown sits, what colour is still in it.
- The treatment itself, with the processing time spent in your own chair or at your own table.
- Washing at the tap, drying and styling, with an explanation of how to get the same result at home.
- Clearing up, so no hair or product is left behind, and a follow-up appointment straight away if you want one.
The step people underestimate is that first assessment in daylight. In your own living room you see exactly the colour you will wear every day, not the colour salon lighting makes of it.
What you need at home
Four things: a chair, a socket, a tap and your own towel. Nothing else needs buying in.
- A chair without armrests so I can work all the way around it. A kitchen chair is ideal.
- A socket within reach for the dryer, straightener or clippers.
- A tap where hair can be washed: kitchen or bathroom both work.
- A clean towel of your own, for after the wash.
- Space around the chair, roughly a metre on each side.
- For colour: a spot where a stray drop would not matter, although I cover everything.
Gown, scissors, combs, clips, dryer, colour, foils and all care products come with me. The towel is the one thing you provide.
Which services work at home

Cutting and styling
Women, men and children cuts, trims and a cut with a wash. For children home often works better than a salon, because a familiar room is calmer than a space full of mirrors and noise.
Colour
Root touch ups, colouring the lengths, highlights, balayage, babylights, airtouch and creative colour. A colour correction, putting an earlier colour right, also happens at home.
Treatments and hair care
Keratin, nanoplasty, hair botox and an express treatment for in between. For keratin a well ventilated room is the only extra condition.
Perms, curls and updos
A perm for lasting curl, plus evening styling and bridal hair. For a bridal appointment I come to wherever you are getting ready, which saves a lot of travel on the morning itself.
Who benefits most from a stylist at home
For some people it is convenience, for others it is the only workable option. That second group is larger than you would think.
Anyone with limited mobility, using a walker, or unable to get to a salon independently no longer has to arrange transport. The same holds for people recovering from surgery or living with a long-term illness.
Parents of young children are the second group. Cutting a child on their own sofa almost always goes more calmly, and you do not need a sitter for your own appointment.
The third group is simply practical: people with irregular working hours. If you are not home until seven, you rarely fit inside a salon schedule.
And then there are those who just prefer it. No queue, no music you did not choose, and when it is done you are already standing in your own kitchen.
Hours and flexibility
Wide availability is the biggest advantage of working this way. Evenings and Saturdays are simply possible, with no surcharge.
A salon has to roster staff and pay rent, and that dictates the hours. Working at home means the appointment bends to your diary instead of the other way round.
One thing does apply: the longer the treatment, the further ahead you should book. A cut often fits in the same week, while an airtouch or colour correction takes half a day and therefore sits further out.
Prices with no travel charge
Every amount below includes the home visit. There is no travel charge and no evening or weekend supplement.
- Gentlemen cut 25 euro, women cut from 25 euro, children from 15 euro.
- Trim 30 euro, wash plus trim 35 euro.
- Root colour from 50 euro, toning from 60 euro, colouring the lengths from 70 euro.
- Highlights without toning from 100 euro, fine balayage from 130 euro, babylights from 160 euro, complex balayage, shatush or ombre from 180 euro, airtouch from 220 euro.
- Colour correction from 200 euro, keratin from 190 euro, nanoplasty from 210 euro.
- Evening styling from 45 euro, bridal hair from 170 euro.
The from-prices move with your hair length and density, since those decide product use and time. What it costs for you is agreed before we start, not settled afterwards.
Salon or hairdresser at home
A salon has better equipment for washing and a second pair of hands if something goes wrong. Those are the two genuine advantages, and it is fair to name them.
Against that, at home you get undivided attention. In a salon three treatments often run at once; here you are the only client of that half day.
For colour work that is more than comfort. A colour rinsed at exactly the right moment gives a different result than one left five minutes too long because the stylist was at another chair.
My honest advice: for cutting, colour and treatments, home works as well or better. If you need a complicated correction with several sessions in one day, a salon with a proper basin is more practical.
Fluent Ukrainian and Russian
I speak fluent Ukrainian and Russian, and basic Dutch and English that I am still learning. With colour that is not a side note: describing colour is precision work, and it goes best in the language you think in.
Words like ash, coppery, warm and dull mean slightly different things to everyone. A misunderstanding there is the most common reason someone ends up with a colour they did not intend.
For the Ukrainian and Russian speaking community in the Drechtsteden and Rotterdam that is often the deciding reason to call. You do not have to search for the Dutch word for what you want.
