Hairdresser at home in Dordrecht and the Drechtsteden

A hairdresser at home in Dordrecht removes the hardest part of a salon visit: parking in an old centre that was never built for it. The treatment stays the same, only I come to you.

A hairdresser at home in Dordrecht

I work out of Papendrecht and cross the bridge to Dordrecht, to clients homes. The same treatments as a salon, only you do not travel.

With almost a hundred and twenty three thousand inhabitants, Dordrecht is the largest municipality in the Drechtsteden. That also means the most salons, the most choice, and at the same time the most people for whom a salon visit simply does not fit.

For that last group a stylist at home is not a luxury. It is the way it actually works.

What I bring is a complete workstation: scissors, clippers, dryer, colour, foils, gown and covers. You put out a chair and a towel of your own, and that really is all.

Which districts of Dordrecht I cover

Everywhere inside the municipal boundary, from the old town to the post-war districts and the newer edges. Dordrecht is big enough that where you live matters, so here they are by name.

  • Binnenstad and Noordflank: tight streets, paid parking, exactly where coming to you saves most.
  • Het Reeland and De Staart: on the river side, easy to reach from the bridge.
  • Oud-Krispijn and Nieuw-Krispijn: a lot of flats and smaller households.
  • Wielwijk, Crabbehof and Zuidhoven: post-war districts with an older population.
  • Sterrenburg and Dubbeldam: more spacious, easy parking at the door.
  • Stadspolders: the newer district on the east side, many families.

Wherever you are, the appointment takes the same time and costs the same. There is no district that carries a surcharge.

Why home visits pay off in the old centre

In the historic centre the car is the problem, not the hairdresser. Paid parking, narrow streets and canals make a salon visit more expensive and more awkward than the haircut itself.

Add it up. An hour of parking, the walk to the salon and back, and the time spent waiting: together that often costs more than the price difference between any two salons.

A home appointment removes that whole block. You put the chair by the window, because daylight in an old building is still the best light there is for judging colour.

For upper-floor flats without a lift the argument is stronger still. I carry my own kit up, which is a good deal less trouble than you going down those stairs twice for a haircut.

Dordrecht in numbers

One figure explains why working at home lands so well in Dordrecht: forty one percent of households are single-person. That is considerably higher than in the surrounding towns.

The city has almost fifty eight thousand households, and more than one in five residents is sixty five or older. Living alone and growing older are exactly the two things that make a salon visit harder.

Working at home has become an ordinary business model in this trade. According to the Monitor Kerndata Kappers the Netherlands had nearly thirty two thousand hairdressing businesses at the end of 2024, one in ten of them mobile, working at the client home.

On price it helps to have a benchmark. The average person in the Netherlands spent just over fifty euro per salon visit in 2024, while a gentlemen cut here is twenty five euro, visit included.

The rest of the Drechtsteden

The Drechtsteden are seven municipalities around the point where the Beneden-Merwede, the Noord and the Oude Maas meet. Together about three hundred thousand people across a hundred and sixty nine square kilometres.

Besides Dordrecht and Papendrecht I work in Sliedrecht, Alblasserdam, Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, Zwijndrecht and Hardinxveld-Giessendam. Rotterdam is part of the area too, though there I prefer to plan several appointments in one day.

Between Papendrecht and Dordrecht I cross the Papendrecht bridge. The waterbus also runs across the river, with stops towards Dordrecht, Sliedrecht and Rotterdam.

Which services work at home

Almost the entire salon menu works at home. The full list with rates is under services.

Cutting and styling

Women, men and children cuts, trims and a cut with a wash. With children their own sofa is almost always calmer than a salon chair.

Colour

Root touch ups, colouring the lengths, babylights, highlights, balayage, airtouch and creative colour. A colour correction also happens at home.

Treatments

Keratin, nanoplasty and hair botox, plus an express treatment for in between. For keratin a well ventilated room is the only extra condition.

Bridal and evening

Bridal and evening styling happen wherever you are getting ready. On a wedding morning that saves a drive across town at exactly the worst moment.

How an appointment goes

From first message to a tidied room is one appointment. Here is how it runs.

  1. You send a message with what you want, your address in Dordrecht and the length of your hair.
  2. I tell you how long it takes and what it will cost, before anything is fixed.
  3. At the agreed time I arrive with all the materials and cover what needs covering.
  4. Your hair is assessed dry first, in daylight rather than under a lamp.
  5. The treatment itself, processing time included, in your own chair.
  6. Washing at the tap, drying, styling and an explanation of the upkeep at home.
  7. Clearing up, and a follow-up appointment straight away if you want one.

Prices with no travel charge

Dordrecht pays the same as Papendrecht. No travel charge, no evening supplement, no weekend supplement.

  • Gentlemen cut 25 euro, women cut from 25 euro, children from 15 euro.
  • Trim 30 euro, wash plus trim 35 euro.
  • Root colour from 50 euro, toning from 60 euro, colouring the lengths from 70 euro.
  • Highlights without toning from 100 euro, fine balayage from 130 euro, babylights from 160 euro, complex balayage, shatush or ombre from 180 euro, airtouch from 220 euro.
  • Colour correction from 200 euro, keratin from 190 euro, nanoplasty from 210 euro.
  • Evening styling from 45 euro, bridal hair from 170 euro.

The from-prices move with your hair length and density. What it becomes for you is agreed beforehand.

Who gains most from this

Anyone who struggles to get out of the house gains most. For people using a walker, recovering from surgery or living with a chronic condition, the whole transport problem disappears.

Next come the people whose diary will not cooperate. Anyone working in the port, in care or on shifts rarely fits inside salon opening hours.

Then the parents. Cutting a child on their own sofa is calmer, and for your own appointment you do not have to arrange anyone.

There is one more group that gets mentioned less often: people who want something done with their hair again after hospital treatment. At home that is a good deal less loaded than in a room full of mirrors.

Ukrainian and Russian at the chair

I speak fluent Ukrainian and Russian, and basic Dutch and English that I am still learning. With colour that is not a side note but a way of preventing mistakes.

Words like ash, coppery, warm and dull mean slightly different things to everyone. Explaining what you want in your own language is the shortest route to the colour you meant.

For the Ukrainian and Russian speaking community in Dordrecht and the rest of the Drechtsteden that is often the reason to call. You do not have to hunt for the Dutch word for your own hair.

Booking an appointment

Booking goes through WhatsApp, phone or the form on the contact page. You can book online there as well.

Mention your district, what you want done and whether your hair has been coloured or lightened before. With those three things I can estimate the time straight away.

Frequently asked questions

Do you cover all of Dordrecht?

Yes, from the Binnenstad and Het Reeland to Sterrenburg, Stadspolders and Dubbeldam. The whole municipality falls inside my service area, outer districts included.

What does a hairdresser at home in Dordrecht cost?

The same as in Papendrecht, because there is no travel charge. A gentlemen cut is twenty five euro, a women cut starts at twenty five and colouring the lengths at seventy.

Is a hairdresser at home useful in the old centre?

Especially there, because parking in the historic centre is awkward and paid. You do not have to park anywhere and I sort that out myself.

Can you do colour and balayage at home?

Yes, from a root touch up to balayage, babylights, airtouch and colour correction. The only difference is that you spend the processing time in your own chair.

Do you work in the rest of the Drechtsteden?

Yes, all seven Drechtsteden municipalities are part of my area: Dordrecht, Papendrecht, Sliedrecht, Alblasserdam, Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, Zwijndrecht and Hardinxveld-Giessendam.

Can I book an evening appointment?

Yes, evenings and Saturdays are available with no surcharge. For people working in Dordrecht who get home late, that is usually the reason to ask for a stylist at home.

How long does an appointment at home take?

A cut takes forty five minutes to an hour, colour one and a half to three hours, and airtouch or a colour correction four to six hours. You hear the exact length when the appointment is arranged.

What do I need at home?

A chair without armrests, a socket, a tap and your own towel. Gown, tools and all products come with me.

Do you speak Ukrainian or Russian?

Yes, both fluently. My Dutch and English are at a basic level and still improving. With colour it removes a lot of misunderstandings if you can explain what you want in your own language, because describing colour is precision work.

The essentials

A hairdresser at home in Dordrecht costs the same as in Papendrecht, because there is no travel charge. I cover every district, from the Binnenstad to Stadspolders.

In the old centre it pays off most, because parking there is pricier and more awkward than the haircut itself. In the outer districts it is the evenings and Saturdays that count.

Cutting, colour, balayage, airtouch, keratin and bridal styling all work at home. All you need is a chair, a socket, a tap and your own towel.
