A hairdresser at home in Rotterdam
I work out of Papendrecht and travel to Rotterdam, to clients homes. Cutting, colour, balayage, airtouch and keratin, all in your own flat.
Rotterdam is not short of salons. What the city is short of is time, and that is exactly what this way of working answers.
A salon visit rarely costs you only the treatment. There is travel around it, parking or a metro ride, and waiting until the chair is free.
A home appointment removes all of that. The time it costs you is the time the treatment itself takes.
Why home visits work in Rotterdam specifically
In Papendrecht the reason is often mobility; in Rotterdam it is almost always time. The city works late and the diary is full.
Then there is parking. Across large parts of the city you pay by the hour for a space, which quietly makes a twenty five euro haircut a good deal more expensive than the bill says.
Living on an upper floor without a lift counts too. I carry my own kit up and you do not have to go down the stairs for an appointment.
And then the point people only mention once they have experienced it: you judge your colour in the light of your own home. Salon lighting is warm and flattering, which is exactly why a colour sometimes reads differently at home than it did in the salon mirror.
Rotterdam in numbers
Rotterdam has over six hundred and seventy thousand inhabitants and roughly three hundred and forty two thousand households. Almost half of those are single-person households.
That is a different picture from the Drechtsteden. Where Papendrecht has relatively many older residents, Rotterdam is younger: about sixteen percent is sixty five or older.
For my work that means a different kind of client. Fewer people with limited mobility, more people who simply have no room in their week.
Mobile working has become a recognised business model in this trade. According to the Monitor Kerndata Kappers the Netherlands had nearly thirty two thousand hairdressing businesses at the end of 2024, one in ten of them working at the client home.
For price comparison: the average person in the Netherlands spent just over fifty euro per salon visit in 2024. A gentlemen cut here is twenty five euro, home visit included.
Which districts I cover
The whole city falls inside my service area. Centrum, Delfshaven, Noord, Kralingen-Crooswijk, Feijenoord, IJsselmonde, Prins Alexander, Charlois, Hillegersberg-Schiebroek, Hoogvliet, Overschie and Pernis are all covered.
Where you live does not change the price. It only changes how I plan the day, which is why you hear at booking which slots are available that week.
For the outer edges of the city the same applies as for the rest of Zuid-Holland. Just ask, and I will say honestly whether it fits.
Several appointments at one address
In a city like Rotterdam, booking together is the smartest form. Two or three people at the same address one after another gets everyone a better slot.
That works in several ways. A family where everyone goes at once, flatmates in the same building, or neighbours in the same street who arrange it between them.
There is a practical advantage people often forget. While one person colour is processing, the next can be cut, so very little of the half day is spent waiting.
For a wedding this is simply the normal way of doing it. Bride, mother and witnesses one after another at the address where everyone is getting ready.
A stylist who speaks Ukrainian and Russian
Rotterdam is a city where a great many people come from elsewhere, and I notice that in who calls. I speak fluent Ukrainian and Russian, and basic Dutch and English that I am still learning.
With cutting you can get a long way on hand gestures. With colour you cannot, because the result hangs on words like ash, coppery, warm and dull, which mean slightly different things to everyone.
A misunderstanding there is the most common reason someone ends up with a colour they did not intend. Explaining what you want in your own language is the shortest route to the right result.
For the Ukrainian and Russian speaking community in Rotterdam that is often the deciding factor. You do not have to hunt for the Dutch word for your own hair.

Cutting and styling
Women, men and children cuts, trims and a cut with a wash. Curtain bangs and face framing belong here too.
Colour
Root touch ups, colouring the lengths, highlights, babylights, balayage, airtouch, ombré and creative colour. Colour correction also happens at home.
Treatments
Keratin, nanoplasty and hair botox. For keratin a well ventilated room is the only extra condition, so a window that opens is enough.
Bridal and evening
Bridal and evening styling at the place where you are getting ready. In Rotterdam that saves a drive across the city on the morning itself.
How an appointment goes
From message to a tidied room, in one appointment. Here is how it runs.
- You send what you want, your district in Rotterdam and the length of your hair.
- I tell you which slots exist that week, how long it takes and what it costs.
- I arrive with all the materials and cover what needs covering.
- Your hair is assessed dry, in daylight rather than under a lamp.
- The treatment itself, with the processing time in your own chair.
- Washing at the tap, drying, styling and an explanation of the upkeep.
- Clearing up, so no hair or product is left behind.
You need a chair without armrests, a socket, a tap and a towel of your own. Gown and all products come with me.
Prices with no travel charge
Rotterdam pays the same as Papendrecht and Dordrecht. No travel charge, no evening supplement, no weekend supplement.
- Gentlemen cut 25 euro, women cut from 25 euro, children from 15 euro.
- Trim 30 euro, wash plus trim 35 euro.
- Root colour from 50 euro, toning from 60 euro, colouring the lengths from 70 euro.
- Highlights without toning from 100 euro, fine balayage from 130 euro, babylights from 160 euro, complex balayage, shatush or ombre from 180 euro, airtouch from 220 euro.
- Colour correction from 200 euro, keratin from 190 euro, nanoplasty from 210 euro.
- Evening styling from 45 euro, bridal hair from 170 euro.
The from-prices move with your hair length and density. On long or thick hair you hear the difference before we start.
Planning and availability
Book early, that is the honest advice for Rotterdam. Because I prefer to plan several appointments here on one day, there is not a loose hour free every week.
For a cut it often works within one or two weeks. For an airtouch or a colour correction, which take half a day, planning further ahead is wiser.
Anyone on a regular rhythm can fix the next appointment immediately afterwards. For colour that is sensible anyway, since regrowth does not adjust to your diary.

Mention your district, what you want done and whether your hair has been coloured or lightened before. And if you want to book for several people, say so straight away.

A cut takes forty five minutes to an hour, colour one and a half to three hours, and airtouch or a colour correction four to six hours. You hear the exact length when the appointment is arranged.
Do I need to arrange parking?
It helps if you know where I can stand, but I sort it out myself. Either way you do not have to drive anywhere, and in Rotterdam that is what saves most.
Can I book an evening or a Saturday?
Yes, and without a surcharge. For people with a full working week that is usually the deciding reason to ask for a stylist at home.
